An agreement between Halton Hill and Ontario Power Generation means that Halton Hills will have 11 new EV charging stations. The town will install the new chargers at six municipal sites around the town.
This is not the first foray into EV charging in Halton Hills. In 2019, the town outlines 14 priority actions to address climate change. One of those actions was to install more EV charging stations to encourage the public and city staff to switch to plug-in vehicles.
In 2020, the town had already installed 20 EV charging stations at municipal sites.
Although the chargers are not free, at $2 per hour, they are not very expensive. The 11 Ivy chargers will cost the town just under $24,000 per year, but the town can collect revenue from the chargers. If kept at a $2 per hour fee, the chargers require about 3,000 per year per charger to pay off the fee every year.
The town knows that the chargers may not pay for themselves in the first few years but are hopeful that they will in the next decade.
